When echocardiography produces poor visualization, key findings may go undetected. Poor visualization can also increase the potential for diagnostic inaccuracy, and ultimately, a poor outcome for the patient. Although emerging evidence supports the use of contrast in echocardiography for improved visualization and diagnostic efficacy, a considerable proportion of clinicians are unaware of its clinical value. Nor are they equipped to recognize those patients who are at the highest risk for poor visualization and would benefit most from use of contrast.
